A special edition to celebrate 20 years of commitment to global health<\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n

Chiesi Foundation is pleased to present<\/span> the<\/span> 2024 edition of its Social Report<\/span><\/b><\/a>, a document that collects activities, results and statements of the commitment carried out over the last year. This is an edition with symbolic value, since in 2025 the Foundation celebrates the <\/span>twentieth anniversary of its birth<\/span><\/b><\/a> , which took place in 2005 as an expression of the social responsibility of the Chiesi Group.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through this report, the Foundation offers a detailed overview of the initiatives implemented, highlighting the <\/span>concrete actions taken to improve access to health in low-resource settings<\/span><\/b>, with a focus on its two main areas of intervention: <\/span>the <\/span>scientific research,<\/span><\/b> as a tool for the advancement and free sharing of medical knowledge; <\/span>and the <\/span>international cooperation,<\/span><\/b>, <\/span>aimed at expanding access to health care in the <\/span>neonatal and respiratory fields<\/span><\/b> and to promote sustainable local development in the countries of the Global South.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 2024 Social Report was drawn up according to the most up-to-date<\/span> guidelines for reporting by Third Sector entities<\/span><\/b> , and represents not only a<\/span> tool for transparency<\/span><\/b> , but also an opportunity to describe the vision, values and systemic approach that have guided the Foundation’s actions for two decades.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our Local Development Programs: 2024 Results<\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n

During 2024, Chiesi Foundation consolidated and expanded its work in<\/span> 13 countries,<\/span><\/b> through<\/span> 14 projects<\/span><\/b> with a focus on<\/span> neonatal health<\/span><\/b> and<\/b><\/span> chronic respiratory diseases<\/b>.<\/span><\/b>. The actions undertaken have achieved a total of <\/span>22,199 direct beneficiaries<\/span><\/b>, including<\/span> 21,904 patients<\/span><\/b> and their<\/span> families<\/span><\/b> , generating concrete and significant results.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>NEST Model<\/span><\/b><\/a> (<\/span>Neonatal Essentials for Survival and Thriving<\/span><\/i>)<\/span> is active today in <\/span>Burundi, Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast and Togo. <\/span><\/b>The main goal is to contribute to the <\/span>reduction of neonatal mortality<\/span><\/b> through an integrated approach that includes: <\/span>targeted training of local health workers, improvement of existing health infrastructure, involvement and awareness of the local community and promotion of <\/span>Kangaroo Care method<\/span><\/b>, an effective and low-cost practice for the care of premature, underweight or sick newborns.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the course of the year, the programme has initiated a process of reviewing , aimed at<\/span> optimising the model effectiveness, scalability and sustainability.<\/span><\/b> in the different contexts in which it operates. In total, it has involved <\/span>over 4,300 newborns<\/span><\/b> admitted to neonatology and<\/span> more than 370 families<\/span><\/b> assisted in Kangaroo Care (KC) Units. They were trained <\/span>295 health workers<\/span><\/b> , of which<\/span> 251<\/span><\/b> with a specific focus on neonatal health.<\/span><\/p>\n

The<\/span> GASP<\/span><\/b><\/a> (<\/span> Global Access to Sustainable Pulmonology<\/span><\/i> )<\/span> Model consolidated in<\/span> Guyana, Nepal and Peru<\/span><\/b> , thanks to the collaboration with key actors from the scientific, academic and institutional world, aims to<\/span> strengthen local capacities in the prevention, diagnosis and management of chronic respiratory diseases<\/span><\/b> , in particular asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2024, the program served<\/span> 15,002 patients<\/span><\/b> , promoting access to asthma and COPD care, and trained<\/span> 44 healthcare professionals.<\/span><\/b>. Of particular note is the expansion of the project in Peru, made possible thanks to the collaboration with<\/span> Chiesi Spain and the Spanish Society of Pneumology (SEPAR)<\/span><\/b> , a virtuous example of cooperation between a philanthropic foundation, the private sector and the scientific community.<\/span> <\/p>\n

The<\/span> IMPULSE project<\/span><\/b><\/a> (<\/span>IMProving qUaLity and uSE of newborn indicators<\/span><\/i>)<\/span>, developed together with <\/span>Doctors with Africa – CUAMM<\/span><\/b>, the <\/span>London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine<\/span><\/b> and the <\/span>WHO Collaborating Center<\/span><\/b> at <\/span>Burlo Garofolo Maternal and Infant IRCCS<\/span><\/b> of Trieste, aims to improve the <\/span>collection and use of neonatal data<\/span><\/b>, to support more informed health decisions and more targeted interventions. <\/span><\/p>\n

In 2024, the project involved<\/span> 154 health facilities<\/span><\/b> in<\/span> Ethiopia, Central African Republic, Tanzania and Uganda,<\/span><\/b> through the following activities: multi-country baseline assessment; development and update of data collection tools (EN-MINI v2.0), start of<\/span> production of 15 academic articles;<\/span><\/b> and organization of<\/span> 4 national workshops<\/span><\/b> for validation and dissemination of results.<\/span><\/p>\n

A year of growth and collaboration<\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n

In 2024, Chiesi Foundation continued its commitment to global health with determination, investing in the<\/span> training of<\/span><\/b> healthcare personnel and the<\/span> promotion of scientific research<\/span><\/b> , key elements for sustainable local development.<\/span> <\/p>\n

During this year, a total of <\/span>295 health workers have been trained<\/span><\/b>, <\/span>14 new chords have been signed<\/span><\/b> in collaboration with <\/span>13 local institutions<\/span><\/b> and <\/span>15 international partners, <\/span><\/b>and<\/span> supported <\/span>32 hospitals<\/span><\/b> and <\/span>clinics. <\/span><\/b>The Foundation has also published a case study and the updated NEST Model document, strengthening its contribution to the academic and professional community, and has actively participated in numerous <\/span>international conferences and round tables<\/span><\/b>, consolidating its role in the contexts of <\/span>health cooperation.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

All these activities have been made possible thanks to a<\/span> solid network of partners, supporters and collaborators<\/span><\/b> , whom the Foundation would like to thank for their commitment and trust.<\/span><\/p>\n

A document accessible to all <\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n

The<\/span> 2024 Social Report<\/span><\/b> is available in Italian<\/strong> ,<\/span> <\/span>English<\/span><\/b> and French<\/span><\/b> to ensure transparent and accessible communication internationally.<\/span> <\/p>\n

With this special edition, the Foundation reaffirms its commitment to making global health more equitable and sustainable, in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 and 17<\/span><\/a><\/strong> set by the United Nations 2030 Agenda.<\/span><\/p>\n
